Mrs. Rokita Wins CGHS Teacher of the Year

A teacher who truly demonstrates the values of Gibbons is chosen every year as Teacher of the Year.  This year, the teacher was Mrs. Amy Rokita, who teaches freshmen and seniors in English.

“I value connections with students, sometimes more than the curriculum. That becomes the most important thing when I enter the room, to build relationships with them so I can view them as a whole person, and try to understand who they are outside of the classroom,” Rokita said.

Throughout her 20 years of working here, she has influenced the English program most recently by teaching the incoming freshmen and the outgoing seniors. With a humble attitude, she is able to connect with students in a deep, meaningful way.

Starting each class off with prayer demonstrates the faith-filled classroom Mrs. Rokita has.

“Meeting with prayer and intention and having a particular agenda that will invite the study of literature and sharing of ideas, and as always, hoping to invite different voices and different opinions into the classroom so we can share and learn from each other, not just me,” Rokita said.
