Prom 101: The Basics To Know Before You Go

Prom will take place Friday, April 17th from 8–11 p.m. at Market Hall (214 E. Martin Street, Raleigh).

Important: There is no entry after 9:30 p.m., so don’t be late.

Tickets

  • $70 (March 10–31)
  • $100 (April 1–14)
    After April 14th, tickets are no longer available, and you cannot buy tickets at the door.

There are no physical tickets—once you purchase, your name will be on the check-in list.

Parking

It is recommended to get dropped off at prom to avoid any stress with parking. If you are parking, nearby options include:

  • Wilmington Station Deck (117 S. Wilmington Street)
  • Moore Square Deck (223 S. Wilmington Street)
  • City Market Lot (230 E. Martin Street)

*free parking on weekends for all three locations

What to Wear

For girls

  • long formal dress and comfortable shoes that you can walk and dance in
  • Remember to purchase a boutonniere for your date 

For guys

  • Wear a tuxedo or a well-fitted suit. No khaki pants. Just don’t be that guy.
  • Remember to purchase a corsage for your date

Everyone

  • Try on your outfit well in advance and visit the tailor if needed.
  • Consider rental places
  • Consider matching with your date. An easy way is to match your tie to your date’s dress

Dates

  • Ask your date early
  • You can bring a guest (must be under 20 and not from Gibbons)
  • You don’t need a date—going with friends is just as fun

Last-minute reminders

  • Get dinner reservations early
  • Plan drop off, pick up, and parking
  • Use your half-day to get ready wisely! Plan hair, nail, and other appointments accordingly
