What’s Next For D&D at Gibbons?
With the entire leadership committee graduating this spring what’s next for the club?
February 1, 2023
Chances are if you’ve been in the Library on a Friday after school you have encountered D&D. Sprawled over tables with binders and books, and franking a good deal of (light-hearted) yelling the Gibbons D&D club has been around for the past few years with leadership staying mostly the same.
The High Council is the group of students that oversee and plan everything that needs to be done for the club. Often meeting with the club moderator and theology teacher Mr. Tobin to hammer out the details. While there are plans in the works for a spring semester Renaissance Faire (stay tuned for more on that and if your very own club will be involved!), all six of the HC members are headers for greener pastures come fall. Only time will tell if this will be the final nail in the coffin for the fledgling club but the HC has a plan to keep the campaign going after splitting the party.
I got a quote from the student moderator, and leader of the HC, Ben Miranda about what he thinks is next in store for the club.
“There are a lot of people interested now that if we keep it well advertised more people will show up I think the club will definitely continue,”
Some basic rules to keep in mind via the Rules and Regulations document created and signed off on this year by the HC. Just one of the things they have created to add some longevity to the group. The entire document can be accessed by request from the HC.
Under topic 1 section B, subsections iv and v
“iv. New members of the High Council must be voted in by the current High Council in a ⅔ majority to be instated.
v. A person voted onto the High Council is allowed to stay until they graduate or leave the club for any reason.”
Now while there are some front runners for who to take over the club, there has been no formal meeting of the HC since the beginning of the year so anything could happen.
Half of the HC was voted in last May when Ben Miranda, being the only HC member present, used another member’s vote to gain that 2/3 majority. While this other member allowed Miranda to use her vote, this anecdote is used to show there has never been a formal transition of power nor has there been a normal vote for onboarding members.
If you are interested in learning more about D&D or maybe you think you have what it takes to take the throne, email Mr. Tobin ( philliptobin@cghsnc.org ) or any instated HC member, primarily Ben Miranda ( mirandab23828@student.cghsnc.org )
D&D meets (almost) every Friday in the Library, beginners and new members are welcome.
