For junior Michelle Abraham, art is more than a class because through art, she’s able to express her creativity and learn new skills. She now takes AP Art and has spent the last three years exploring new art styles and techniques.
Abraham took Art I her freshman year, where she learned the basic foundations of drawing. During her sophomore year taking Art II, she continued improving with skills and trying more detailed work. This year, as a junior in AP Art, she has pushed herself even further by creating complex and realistic pieces that show her growth as an artist.
“I’ve always enjoyed drawing, but taking classes in high school helped me improve a lot,” Abraham said.
One of the pieces she made shows a bag opened, revealing the stuff inside it. The drawing shows her ability to work with color and light, bringing the bag to life with shadows and highlights.
Another piece she made shows a smiling child holding a stuffed animal. The painting shows emotions through the child’s facial expression while also focusing on details such as the stuffed animal and the clothing. This shows that she can paint realism and personality.
The last piece with a person holding a guitar shows the amount of contrast she used. It is in black and white, and the attention to all the details is amazing. By using shading and contrast, Abraham created depth in the drawing and made it look more realistic.
Overall, Abraham’s artwork shows how much she has grown as an artist over the past three years. She brings attention to small details and textures. She has dedication to improving her skills and experimenting with different techniques. As she continues taking art classes, Abraham hopes to keep showing her style and create even more expressive work.
