Spiritual Life Lunches a Benefit to Gibbons Students

Every first Wednesday of the month, the Spiritual Life team hosts a lunch in the Spiritual Life Center. These lunches grow your faith with your friends while also having fun.

For some of the lunches, the Gibbons community will come and talk to the other students. One lunch, about half a dozen students gathered together, to eat and share their faith experiences. From spiritual retreats to altar serving experiences at mass — these are amazing ways to kick off the school year. Together, younger students learn about how older students, just like us, grew their faith at Gibbons.

At other lunches, there are guest speakers who come to share their own faith journey. For instance, Bishop Luis Zarama shared his story about what called him on his path and the process behind becoming a bishop.

Other times, we have people who didn’t let a life-threatening disease get in the way of their beliefs. Peter Le, also known as “Grace Man,” came for lunch to talk about his journey. He dedicated his life to sharing his story, which inspires so many people, especially after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2018. Students listened and asked him questions about his path through Christ.

As inspiring guest speakers can be, Spiritual Life lunches can be just as fun and helpful without them. For December’s lunch, Fr. Luke Rawicki had the students play games such as ordering the story of Jesus’ birth in correct order, and talk about our favorite parts of the story.

While they don’t get enough recognition, Spiritual Life lunches are very fun, faithful, and entertaining. The speakers that Gibbons brings in have inspiring stories, along with time after to ask questions. Grab your friend, grab your lunch, and definitely look into giving these lunches, because they are very beneficial and a great time.
