Tryouts have concluded, rosters have been set, meaning the spring sports season has begun. A senior-heavy women’s soccer team is looking to make one last playoff run before many continue their careers in college.
The Crusaders had an impressive 2025 season, going 16-4-2. One of those losses came in a heartbreaking overtime thriller in the third round of the playoffs.
The girls are looking to avenge that loss with their first game at Millbrook on Feb. 26.
Some more games to look forward to are March 13 versus Hough and March 18 versus Heritage. Both teams had high seeds in the playoffs last year.
It will also be exciting to see how Gibbons fares in our new conference, the Triangle Six. An exciting matchup to look out for in the conference is versus Holly Springs, who had a record of 19-2 and were the third seed in the East last year.
With four senior college commits, the team has plenty of talent to make a deep playoff run. Goalkeeper Alyssa Lane is committed to Greensboro College, Sophia Juhasz is committed to Colby College, Ashley Gilbert is committed to Mercer University, and Kate Sheehan is committed to Robert Morris University.
Last year, these current seniors led the team in every stat category. Juhasz led the team in total goals, and points. Charlotte Fusco led the team in total assists and Lane led the team in shutouts.
These seniors are working hard to finish their high school careers with a state championship and they will surely not disappoint.
