Triple Crown: Gibbons Teams Try to Repeat Titles in Three Sports

Three Gibbons teams are trying to defend their state championships this weekend: girls volleyball, field hockey, and girls cross country.

“A key part of our team was how we overcame the losses and took it more as a growing opportunity than a setback,” said Hailey Mueller, representing the volleyball team.

“Our conference play was lower than the level of their preseason matches, so making sure that we were focused on the court every game, no matter if in their conference or not, was so important,” said Mueller

The volleyball team has so much talent, and many of these girls are committed to playing at the next level. Mary Grace Gonyeau is going to Virginia, Genevieve Harris to Texas, Kate Barbour to Le Moyne University, Mia Bell to Cornell, and Hailey Mueller is going to Duke.

Some of the team’s strengths are their team culture and faith, as well as having one of the better serving receivers and offenses.

The team is packed with talent and amazing players who are set up for an amazing future.

Another team to win the state championship was the field hockey team. The field hockey team at Gibbons is insanely strong and was led by many college recruits. Cardinal Gibbons field hockey won 3-1 against Charlotte Catholic in a very hard-fought game.

The girls cross country team was able to climb their way up through the meets and finish as state champions as well.

After many practices, workouts, film sessions, and team bonding activities, all of these teams were able to finish on top as state champions and represent our school.
