The latest addition to the Cardinal Gibbons athletic department, whom many of us have not had the chance to meet yet, is Mr. Evan Sauer, the new assistant athletic director.
His Gibbons journey began last year during the final weeks of school, and he is thrilled to be able to officially begin this school year as a part of the Gibbons community.
Prior to Gibbons, Evan had a job at Duke University in the athletic department, which he worked at for six years. He then took his talents over to the N.C. High School Athletic Association and then landed here, where he decided to become a Crusader.
Evan has lived in the Raleigh area for his whole life. He graduated from Leesville Road High School and played baseball throughout. When he was attending N.C. State he was studying sports management, and that’s when he got into sports.
While at work, he is responsible for a lot of the gameday activities, like setting things up for the sports teams before their games, and from around 8 a.m. till noon, he is working on his computer.
Since Cardinal Gibbons is known for sports, this most challenging part of Evan’s job is difficult conversations with the kids and their parents because a lot of them want to be the best.
“Knowing that I’m helping a larger community, seeing students thrive in athletics and academics, and with the overall community,” Sauer said.
