Athletics Recap for Sept. 22-27

The fall sports season is in full swing as we reach the end of the first academic quarter. In the week of Sep. 22, we saw the all fall sports teams get into the action, with flag football starting its new season.

Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team competed in two games last week. Gibbons traveled to Southern Durham and lost  2-1.

The Crusaders bounced back in their following game against Felton Grove at home where they clinched their first win, posting a clean sheet in a 5-0 win. The Crusaders are hoping that this victory will fuel them to make a run in the conference.

This week, the Crusaders will face Holly Springs at home and they will travel to Middle Creek.

Field Hockey

The field hockey team was on the road twice last week as they faced Riverside and East Chapel Hill, shutting out both teams.

In the Riverside game, there were four scorers who set the tone as junior Chloe Todd scored four goals, sophomore Mia Boccaro scored two, senior Adriana Ensani scored two, and sophomore Kacy Buckel scored two as they won 10-0

In their trip to East Chapel Hill, the Crusaders posted an 8-0 win. In this game Todd scored two goals, Buckel scored two, senior Molly Nussbaumer scored two, and seniors Maggie Drenth and Natalia Nelke each had one goal.

The Crusaders are looking forward to their two home games this week as they will host Carrboro and Our Lady of Good Counsel from Maryland  as they hope to extend their winning streak.

Volleyball

The volleyball team had a busy week as they took home two conference wins and traveled to Florida to battle with some top teams.

The Crusaders began their week hosting Sanderson taking home a 3-0 win. Junior Mia Bell stood out as she posted eight kills. The Crusaders then traveled to play Cary where they again won, 3-0. The Crusaders are currently first in the conference being closely followed by Middle Creek.

On their trip to Florida, the Crusaders played a doubleheader facing Plant High School winning 3-2. The Crusaders then faced Winter Park, losing 3-0.

The Crusaders currently hold a 15-3 record. This week they will play Felton Grove and Holly Springs as they inch closer to a conference title and a deep playoff run.

Flag Football

The flag football team won two important games vs St. Mary’s School to begin the season. The Crusaders won their first game 13-6 and won the second game 26-6.

These were important games for the Crusaders to win as they look to have a great season. This week the Crusaders will face Cary and Felton Grove.
