Homecoming is a big night for high schoolers. You get all dressed up, you dance with your friends, maybe eat some of the food that’s there. But, most students usually don’t stop and think, “Wait, who set all this up?”
Here at Gibbons, the homecoming dance this year is being set up by Mrs. Stephanie Garcia. It is her first time getting to plan our homecoming dance, and it’s not a small task at all.
Garcia started planning for homecoming a few months ago, as there’s always so much to get done.
“So what I did was I reserved the DJ, I ordered balloons, picked out food, made arrangements for pipes and drapes for around the gym, and asked for chaperones,” Garcia said.
But of course, that isn’t all she had to do for our dance.
“I asked for chaperones, created the form for the registration, collected the money for that, and I have to be here while everything is set up, while the dance is going on, and help clean up,” Garcia said.
Even after she’s done planning, Garcia is going to stay and make sure that everything goes right for our homecoming dance.
“It’s usually student volunteers, myself, and Mr. Rogosich set up everything for the dance,” Garcia said.
But sometimes, Garcia doesn’t have that help, and it can take a while to set everything up.
“If I do it myself it can take hours, but if I do it with student volunteers it will take about two hours, maybe less,” Garcia said.
Garcia said that this year, she has student volunteers coming in Saturday morning to help her set everything up, so that it can all be amazing for us students.
When asked what her favorite part of planning the dance is, Garcia said, “I just like to watch the kids come in and have a good time.”
