High school is often a time for growth, building meaningful connections, and self-discovery. For Ina Lazarczyk and Claire Brenegan, however, their friendship has been constant, one that has withstood the tests of change and the challenges of growing up.
What began as a mutual friend connection in their freshman year grew into a friendship that laid the foundation for their high school experience.
The Beginning: From Freshman Year to Lifelong Friends
In their freshman year, Lazarczyk and Brenegan weren’t the closest of friends. They were part of a small group of girls, but their friendships were closer to others in the group rather than to each other. As the years passed, their circle of friends expanded, and everyone began to make new connections. Despite the change, Lazarczyk and Brenegan’s friendship remained steady.
No matter what happened, they always stayed together.
“It’s you and me always,” said Lazarczyk.
Even when traveling through different friend groups, they stuck by each other. It became clear that their friendship was the one stable thing that wouldn’t change throughout their high school years.
Growing Closer: Leaning on Each Other Through Everything
What sets Ina and Claire’s friendship apart is how they have relied on each other during difficult times. From struggles to minor setbacks, they have always been there for one another, offering support and encouragement. Their ability to communicate openly and honestly has contributed to the strength of their friendship. After an emotional experience at Kairos, Lazarczyk called Brenegan to share it with her, and within 15 minutes, Brenegan was at her house ready to support and comfort her best friend.
“We don’t just tell each other what we want to hear, but what we need to hear, even when it isn’t easy,” said Lazarczyk.
Their honesty created a deep sense of trust. When one of them made a mistake, the other helped them find their way back to what was right, always pushing each other to come back stronger.
The bond they shared became a source of strength and a constant presence that was always there to lift them.
A Friendship Grounded in Faith
One of the most powerful parts of Ina and Claire’s friendship is their faith. They started attending church together, including Encounter and morning mass.
They pushed each other to step out of their comfort zones, trying new things with their faith that they might not have otherwise done alone.
For Lazarczyk, the experience of attending Ignited by Truth was a prime example of how Brenegan helped her face fears and grow.
It was something she wouldn’t have considered by herself, but with Brenegan by her side, she felt more confident and excited to go. Their experiences together in their faith helped them grow individually and as friends.
“ I have learned so much from you,” Claire said to Ina during the interview.
The connection between Ina and Claire is rooted in their shared belief in Christ. They’ve learned and grown together, always encouraging one another to keep pushing forward in their faith. Their friendship has become a testament to the power of love, support, and Christ’s presence in their lives.
Favorite Memories: The Moments That Defined Their Friendship
Throughout high school, Ina and Claire created countless memories that defined their friendship. From prom nights to community service, they shared some of the most fun and meaningful moments of their lives together.
For Lazarczyk, prom was one of those special moments. Both years of prom were memorable, but what stood out to her the most was that, no matter what, it was always about them. Even when they had dates and were in a large group, they made sure to stay close, dancing, holding hands, and enjoying each other’s company.
One of Brenegan’s favorite memories was the Gibbons Friends Dance from last year. It was a night full of laughter, dancing, and connecting with people. It had such a positive impact on Brenegan, and having her best friend with her made it all the more memorable.
Their memories together have been filled with laughter, smiles, and unforgettable experiences. Ina and Claire made sure to cherish each moment together, and it’s clear that they have left a lasting mark on each other’s lives.
“It was really beautiful watching Ina and Claire’s friendship develop over three years, but especially senior year, seeing them in Encounter and leading a Kairos Retreat together. They really push each other to love Jesus and to bring that out inside of each other. They are always so enthusiastic about the highs in their life and always want to celebrate together. They are also very supportive during the tough times too.” Mrs. Anders says.
A Friendship That Will Last Forever
Ina and Claire’s friendship is a rare and beautiful one. Through the good and bad, they’ve stuck by each other’s side, offering love, support, and strength when needed most.
Their bond has only grown deeper with time, and the memories they’ve created will last a lifetime. As they head into new chapters of their lives, their friendship will remain a testament to the power of love, faith, and the unbreakable bond between two people who have always had each other’s backs.
Whether it’s a special memory like prom, a moment in their faith, or just the simple daily moments, Ina and Claire’s friendship will forever be something that defines their high school experience—and will continue to shape the rest of their lives.
