Easter is an important time for thousands of people around the world, and it is a time that we can be grateful for what Jesus did for us, what he continues to do for us, and how we can thank him. Some people will go to mass, some people will give something up for Lent, some people pray, and some people just spend the day with their families.
For Easter, and Lent, I try to do all that I can. Lent was when Jesus spent 40 days and 40 nights in the desert. While in the desert the devil tried to tempt Jesus, but it didn’t work. Jesus did this to help get himself ready to join God in heaven.
Lent is probably the hardest part for me. It is hard for me to find something to give up for 40 days, but I try to remember that it is a small thing compared to what Jesus did for us.
Usually I give up something like candy, or sweets. This year I’ve given up procrastinating, because I’ve gotten really bad at it over the school year. Procrastinating is easy for me with my phone or tv, so it has been hard not to.
On Easter day my family doesn’t usually do anything outside of our house. My grandparents will sometimes come over, and we’ll have an Easter lunch and say why we’re grateful for what Jesus did for us.
Sometimes we’ll go to Easter Mass if there is one going on, but my family usually goes to the beach and there aren’t a lot of churches. At Easter Mass there are usually many hymns sung and the story of Jesus being crucified and resurrecting is told from the Gospels. If there is something going on, we’ll go if my grandparents are willing to.
I think that a lot of people forget that Easter isn’t about bunnies or getting candy, but that it’s about how Jesus died to save us. It was almost 2,000 years ago when he died, and his sacrifice for us is still in effect. He saved thousands of people with his life, and people sometimes don’t remember that. That’s why at Gibbons we have Lent, so that we can show Jesus how grateful we are for what he did.
Easter is a very important day to me, and I’m glad it’s important to other people too!
