The Importance of Leadership at Gibbons

Leadership can be displayed in so many different ways.

It can be seen as sitting with the kid eating alone, being a camp counselor, or stepping up to a more prominent role in athletics.

“Leadership is knowing your audience, knowing how to execute plans with the group that you have, and knowing your own goals. Then attaining your group goals and working to reach a common goal that aligns with your personal goal,” said senior Caitlin Banks.

At Gibbons, students can learn to express themselves as leaders in many ways, whether on the field, in the classroom, or through spiritual life.

Over four years, students can uncover their true selves when put into different and new scenarios throughout high school.

“Looking back on freshman year compared to now, I have definitely become more confident with myself and my ability to handle tough situations,” said senior Lily Macken.

Leaders must possess a vision and work hard to make difficult decisions to achieve their goals.

“The Gibbons community and my friends have pushed me into all of the opportunities I have had and to make the most of my time in high school,” said Banks.

Gibbons offers many leadership roles, such as Admissions Ambassadors, Gibbons Leadership Institute (GLI), and Club Leadership councils.

These opportunities allow the student body to find the best way to grow as a leader.

“I loved getting to be an Admissions Ambassador. Having shadow kids was always the highlight of my week,” said sophomore Katie Grace Duncan.

Gibbons’s family-like culture allows students to be comfortable expressing themselves, fully allowing them to fill the shoes of leaders.

“I am now finally confident with myself,” said Banks.
