One of the best parts of high school can be getting to know the people around you, and one thing preventing us from making these connections is our phones. This is why Gibbons Student Life has decided to introduce “Tech Free Tuesdays.”
Though intimidating, Tech Free Tuesdays are much easier than they seem. The goal of Tech Free Tuesdays is to limit the time Gibbons students spend on their phones at school.
There is no need to turn in your phone like Unplugged, just simply keep your screen time under an hour by the end of the school day.
All you have to do is go to the student lounge at the end of the day and show a student leader or moderator your screen time, then get your credit! You earn ten house points for every day you participate and if you participate for all four days then you can come to a special Tech Free Tuesday breakfast, other prizes will also be given for participating for certain numbers of days.
The average screen time for teens in America currently sits at 8 hours and 39 minutes.
Spending less time on your phone can help students focus during class and be more productive.
In addition to boosting productivity, limiting screen time can also help students better connect with others.
“Tech Free Tuesday has allowed me to connect better with my friends,” says student leader Sarah Downes.
The first day was March 25 and it will continue for the next two weeks. Congratulations to those who participated and we encourage more to join!
