Be a “Wrench”: The Crusader Way

The wrench is a symbol with a meaning that men’s lacrosse coach Gordon Galloway wants his players to live by.

Before the Crusaders’ 2025 season started, the players were introduced to brand-new practice jerseys and a tradition.

This tradition involved earning small wrench stickers to stick on the back of their helmets when deserved.

As well as the stickers, on the back of the new team practice jerseys is a large wrench stretching across the bottom of the jersey.

Some would say it is cool, some would say it is odd, but to the team, it meant a whole lot more than just an image.

Coach Galloway has a story behind “being a wrench.”

As a former assistant coach, Galloway witnessed a player challenge those on the coaching staff about their drill choices, practice plans, and way of playing.

The head coach came to practice the next day, ready to call a team meeting. He expressed how you “be a wrench” and do what you are told.

Soak in information, skills, and ideas, work hard with all your effort, and show heart.

“It came down to a matter of the kids just selling out to make plays and finding ways to win…but we still must learn and must continue to insist we get better every day,” said Galloway.

This is what it means to be a wrench.

If you have a team full of wrenches, success will come undeniably.
