Going into the second semester, Cardinal Gibbons’ Filmmaking Club continues to be arguably the best opportunity for students to experience a creative outlet within their school community.
Student leaders Barbara Duran and Natalia Caloca-Desilos partnered with Media Club at the beginning of the school year to establish a space where students could express their artistic and creative talents in a fun, productive, and welcoming environment.
The fun isn’t stopping anytime soon, with the next short film ready to be taken on following the upcoming mid-winter break.
Detention, the club’s debut film, was an achievement considering the entirety of it being student-led. It was brought together piece-by-piece through many hours of collaboration and perfected by the variety of talents and diversity that make up filmmaking club.
Once edited and ready, films produced by the club are viewed by anyone that is interested. The last one in November was held in the Media Room. Drinks and popcorn are provided as the club members get to see their hard work and dedication portrayed in art form on the screen.
“It’s an accomplishing feeling to work on something for months and finally see its purpose: to share it with others,” said Barbara Duran.
Club leaders give a special shout to anyone interested in drama or creative writing, as these specifically go hand in hand with the making of a successful project in filmmaking.
However, Duran also added, “No experience is ever expected or required. Those who are willing to dedicate time to the craft [should join], especially because filmmaking is about trial and error, not perfection.”
Whether you are an avid writer and video editor, or filmmaking simply sparks your interest, attend a meeting and add to the magic created by Gibbons’ filmmaking club.
