Club Spotlight: GNN Club brings together those interested in broadcasting

Gibbons News Network, better known as GNN, is our school-wide source for morning prayer, announcements, sports updates, and other important information regarding our Gibbons community.

“GNN Club is the broadcast recording club open to any student who wants to learn about any of the recordings we do for anything that goes on at school,” said Daniel Jukic, moderator of the club.

GNN welcomes students of all levels and has also created a program called GNN Plus to explore specific topics in depth.

“GNN Plus is specifically designed to be inclusive of, like leaders of groups who want to talk about their own thing,” said Jukic.

GNN Club meets every Wednesday morning before school, every Tuesday morning before school, and every day during first lunch.

The club records every day, with their sole goal being to get recordings done efficiently and on time, with the help of co-moderator, Mr. Stewart Aull.

“We always need a person, a slide, and a script, so anybody who has a slide and a script, who wants to talk about something approved, can come in and practice,” said Mr. Jukic.

The intent is not for all recordings to be aired. Students should practice these skills so that when they do these types of things in the real world, they are comfortable.

“I would say the number one goal of GNN Club is for students to create student-led, student-curated, and student-produced content so that there is nobody in between the students and the students… what I hope students are getting out of it is how to produce their own work and how to talk to their peers, as opposed to educators telling what they must do,” said Mr. Jukic.

Jukic says he just wants students to express their interests to other students.

“That’s the goal of all media periods,” he said.
