Almost done with its season, the Cardinal Gibbons women’s basketball team faces an unreal question: Will they make the playoffs?
The top 32-seeded teams secure a spot in bracket play, and the girls are currently ranked 35th in the 4A East Rankings.
However, there are other ways into the playoffs, like finishing second in conference to secure an automatic berth or winning the conference tournament.
This season, the team has a 8-13 overall record and a 5-4 conference record. They picked up a Senior Night win on Feb. 11.
The conference tournament is next week with the state playoffs beginning on Feb. 22.
“I honestly have no clue if we will make the playoffs,” said sophomore Miller Kuss.
The girls have found this year’s competition challenging, and losing their best player, Tessa Gladieux, made it no easier. Gladieux moved to Florida and would have been a junior.
“She was a huge asset to our team, and it’s been hard without her,” said Kuss.
The question of whether they can make it remains unanswered, but the girls are ready to give it their best shot.
