As the dress code has been the same for many years, there is a possible new change arriving at Gibbons. Deans have been considering minor changes in the dress code to maintain school identity; providing clarity and professionalism in the school environment.
By updating certain aspects of the dress code, the school hopes to maintain a culture where all students are seen as part of a unified group, both academically and socially.
Here’s what we’ve learned at The Gibbons Globe so far:
What is happening with the dress code?
- Nothing is confirmed yet, but the Dean of Students – Mr. Jon Armfield and Ms. Paige DeRouin – are considering some minor changes to improve our dress code like possible new skirts, polos, and other minor fixes.
Why a change?
- Changes are being done for clarity, so Gibbons looks more professional to others and to “clean up” the attire.
What is the change for the skirts?
- Possibly new Flynn O’Hara skirts, which could be plaid or a different design/color than khaki. We’re not sure if khaki would still be allowed. There’s also a potential for only pants allowed, but it does not seem likely.
Is there a change for boy’s dress code?
- No major changes yet, besides the all-gender option for different colored polos. Read more on that in the next question
What else is being changed?
- Possibly, there’s an option for a white OR green polo. There are no changes planned for existing rules on makeup, jewelry, hair color, and piercings.
Is there a change in senior dress code?
- This could be changed to look more sophisticated; things like no distressed jeans, no leggings, sweatshirts, athletic clothing, etc. This could pose some of the biggest changes that are being talked about, but again – THESE ARE ONLY CONSIDERATIONS thus far.
