Club Spotlight: Cooking Club

The Cardinal Gibbons Cooking Club is a way for students interested in the culinary world to learn the necessary skills needed for everyday life.

“The cooking club provides students with an opportunity to learn and enjoy cooking in a fun and collaborative environment,” said Mr. Hawks in a written response.

The Cooking Club meets once every month, and 16 students are allowed to attend; however, there are over 100 students in the club.

At each meeting, depending on the resources available, students get to try out “learning basic cooking techniques, trying out new recipes, and working together in groups” according to Mr. Hawks.

When a new dish is made, ranging from French toast, cookies, and meatballs, to hand-tossed pizza, the team goes through a process of tasting and evaluating each dish.

Cooking Club encourages students to experiment with different flavors, ingredients, and techniques.

“[Cooking Club] offers an opportunity to explore different cuisines and cultural dishes. It allows for artistic expression through food presentation and plating,” said Hawks.

Mr. Hawks loves cooking all foods, but more specifically enjoys grilling and making pizzas.

“Anyone can join regardless of skill level. The cooking club is a great way to get started in the kitchen!” said Hawks.
