Schoolwide Masses are a spiritual tradition at Cardinal Gibbons High School. Three or four times a school year, the entire Gibbons community, all students and educators, gather in the Father Price Gym for mass.
Gibbons has over 1,600 students, and over 150 educators at the school. Fitting everyone in the gym can be a struggle, however the community comes together to set the gym up for success. The floor coverings get put down, all the chairs get set up, and the statues and podium get put by the stage.
There are a lot of musical numbers, and songs to sing during mass. The band and chorus come together and work in harmony to deliver all the songs and music.
Students sit by their houses in specific areas of the gym. The directors help the mass to run smoothly and soundly.
During communion, students and educators alike are willing to give out the Body of Christ with a smile on their face.
Schoolwide mass is a lasting Gibbons tradition. It takes a number of people and hours of work, but it’s pulled off multiple times every school year. Many students love this tradition, and it is one that will last a Gibbons for as long as the school is standing.
