Club Spotlight: Women's Empowerment Club

The Women’s Empowerment Club, moderated by Mrs. Amy Ernenwein, is an affinity group that focuses on the equity and justice of women in our country. This club offers a powerful and safe space for the women to discuss important topics like women’s mental health, how women deal with abuse, and highlights the powerful women in our world.

One of the fondest memories students have of this club is when the girls colored and wrote positive affirmations on fun pieces of paper and they put them around the school.

“It was one of my favorite things we’ve done for our Gibbons community and going around and seeing the girls faces light up when they saw the affirmations in the hall was such a treat,” said Ernenwein.

The Women’s Empowerment Club collaborates with local women’s homeless shelters. They also donate women’s sports equipment to the Salvation  Army and other organizations as well.

“We had many sports teams including the women’s lacrosse team, women’s soccer team, and the women’s tennis team all participate in donating equipment,” said Ernenwein.

“Something I think is so special about our club is that it’s essentially different every year. Our student leaders don’t run it the same exact way our student leaders did last year. For example this year our group leaders, Anna Lindhart and Grace Mihalyo, focused more on tying in our christian faith with the club,” Ernenwein said.

This year, The Women’s Empowerment Club hosted the first ever Women of the Bible discussion. It was held on Oct. 29 in the Spiritual Life Center and they discussed the importance of the Woman at the Well in the Bible and in our lives today.

The Women’s Empowerment club is just getting started on their impactful journey as one of the affinity groups and clubs at Cardinal Gibbons. With the help of all of the young women in our community, we can help make a change in the lives of women so that they feel they are equals and empowered to fulfill their dreams.
