According to USA Today, Cardinal Gibbons High School is the 14th-best high school for student-athletes in the country. With this comes a large amount of student-athletes who go on to compete in college.
The Gibbons Globe sends out a questionnaire to our school’s commits to ask about their experience finding the right school and their recruiting process overall.
Molly Nussbaumer
Class of 2026 | Field Hockey | University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
Molly Nussbaumer, a junior field hockey player, is going to fulfill her lifelong dream of attending the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to continue her academic career while playing field hockey. Through 13 games, Nussbaumer has collected a total of 19 goals and 28 assists.
Going to UNC has always been a dream of Nussbaumer’s. “I love UNC’s campus, the environment, and it has always been a dream of mine to go there,” she said.
As June 15th after Nussbaumer’s sophomore year rolled around, there was no question about where Nussbaumer was going to land. Some of the biggest factors in her decision were the “team culture, good coaching staff, playing in the ACC, (and) staying close to home.”
Being a student-athlete comes with a lot of stress. Committed, Nussbaumer looks forward to now being able to focus and get better without the stress of committing and recruiting. Nussbaumer’s’ favorite part of her recruiting process was “going to clinics, meeting new coaches, and being able to experience and see different schools around the country.”
A piece of advice Nussbaumer would like to give to younger athletes is to never take advantage of a single minute of practice because hard work and practice will pay off in the long run. She would also recommend visiting as many schools as possible to be able to make your decision confidently.
Nussbaumer looks forward to “playing at a higher level and getting coached by one of the best coaching staffs.” Good luck Molly!
