According to USA Today, Cardinal Gibbons High School is the 14th-best high school for student-athletes in the country. With this comes a large amount of student-athletes who go on to compete in college.
The Gibbons Globe sends out a questionnaire to our school’s commits to ask about their experience finding the right school and their recruiting process overall.
Genevieve Harris
Class of 2026 | Women’s Volleyball | University of Texas
Genevieve Harris is a class of 2026 women’s volleyball player, committed to continuing her career at the University of Texas. As a junior, Harris leads the Crusaders in assists, is second in digs per set, and third on aces per set.
Harris chose to dedicate her next four years of education to the University of Texas because of “the culture, the city, the team’s reputation, the coaches, the facilities, the opportunities, and the players.”
One of the biggest factors in Harris’ decision to commit to Texas, was her “happiness in college.”
The University of Texas provides “unlimited resources and opportunities, as well as a state of the art business school.” Harris hopes to attend McCombs Business School during her time at Texas.
For Harris, her recruiting process came extremely fast. Ranked 4th in the nation by Prep Dig Volleyball, it was no surprise that Harris committed to the University of Texas on June 15th just after her sophomore year. June 15th is the first-day college coaches can contact prospective athletes.
Harris’s favorite part of her recruiting experience was “Committing/talking and learning about schools, teams, and coaches.”
One piece of advice Harris would like to give to younger athletes is to set realistic expectations for yourself and work hard every day no matter what. “It’ll pay off,” she said.
Harris looks forward to “Playing and having a community with the team.” Good luck Genevieve!
