An Inside Look on the Gibbons Green Army

The Gibbons Green Army is more than just a group of students; it is a symbol of faith, school spirit, and community. Green Army plays a vital role in bringing students together, fostering a sense of belonging, and promoting positive values within the school. In addition, they help promote enthusiasm and excitement in Gibbons’ student section.

Ms. Megan O’Neill, director of Green Army, gives us an overview of the troupe. Green Army is essentially the school’s “cheer squad” for many Gibbons events and sports games.

The group’s main goal is to bring energy to the student section and to join the student body together as a community. It provides students with an opportunity to make a positive impact on their school. Through their involvement in various projects and initiatives, members of Green Army learn valuable leadership skills and develop a sense of responsibility.

The Green Army Club organizes a wide range of activities and events throughout the school year. During football games, leaders in the group called “generals” make sure people touch the well-known and famous “rock” that is a prominent symbol of community at Gibbons and gives us luck before our games. The members also help plan football themes and activities like painting the rock.

Additionally, they make media content, paint student section signs, clean up after games, lead cheers, and get the word out about upcoming school events. Overall, Green Army helps excite students at Gibbons sports events and encourages school spirit.

O’Neill felt like becoming a part of the association this year was a great fit for her since she loves interacting with students and helping out the school community. Any student at Gibbons could easily express how high-energy and lively Ms. O’Neill is. Something that is also personally important to her and applies to her school life is her Christian faith.

“My faith is everything to me. My faith in Jesus Christ and Salvation History has provided me with a foundation and shapes my thoughts, interactions, and the ways I live joys and challenges,” she said.

She incorporates her faith into the Green Army by leading in prayer, cheering, and making sure students support one another in ways they think Christ would.

Joining Gibbons Green Army is a fantastic way to boost school spirit and connect with fellow students who share enthusiasm for supporting athletics. Students who are interested in joining the Gibbons Green Army can do so by emailing Ms. O’Neill or any Green Army general.
