Girls Tennis Wraps up Cap-6 Title, has State Championship Hopes

The month of October is here and with that comes conference championship time. The Gibbons varsity girls tennis team is one of the strongest in the state this year, ranked No. 4 in the state by HighSchoolOT and first in the 919 area code. Coached by Andrew Tuttle, the girls are still undefeated at 19-0 overall and have ended the regular season with the Cap-6 Conference championship.

Their dominance can not be understated as they have won 163 out of their 179 singles matches. On 11 different occasions, they have won 9-0 or 8-0, and their closest games were two  6-3 wins, against conference rivals Leesville Road and Broughton.

After each match, Tuttle awards a Player of the Match on MaxPreps. The winners so far this year are: freshman Anya Aga (3), senior Celeste Davis (2), junior Lilly Heiden (1), senior Claire Stewart (1), senior Kaya Jantac (2), freshman Kylie Ryan (2), senior Lola Holderness (1), freshman Jenna Navarro (1), senior Ava Staub (1), and senior Lilly Fisher (1).

The starting lineup of Davis, Aga, Stewart, Ryan, Holderness, and Heiden have led the way for the crusaders this season and have maintained their own dominance with each of the top six beating their opponent in their match against Broughton last Tuesday.

The Cap-6 Conference championship tournament will be played Tuesday and Wednesday and the Crusaders have a great chance to win it all going into the postseason.
