Cardinal Gibbons College Commit Interview – Rocky Phelps

Cardinal Gibbons College Commit Interview - Rocky Phelps

According to USA Today, Cardinal Gibbons High School is the 14th-best high school for student-athletes in the country. With this comes a large amount of student-athletes who go on to compete in college.

The Gibbons Globe sends out a questionnaire to our school’s commits to ask about their experience finding the right school and their recruiting process overall.

Rocky Phelps

Class of 2025 | Women’s Lacrosse | United States Military Academy, West Point

Rocky Phelps is a senior midfielder on the Cardinal Gibbons women’s lacrosse team. Phelps is committed to play lacrosse at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Like Delaney, Phelps has also won 3 state championships and will be competing for one more this upcoming season.

For Phelps, the army has a special meaning to her. Phelps’ grandfather graduated from the United States Military Academy and served in the Army for 32 years, retiring as a colonel. Her brother Shane, currently attends the Naval Academy and will serve in the Navy following his graduation. Aside from this Phelps said,  “I love the lacrosse coach and current team and future teammates.”

The most important things that influenced Phelps’ decision were the high level lacrosse, that includes a close knit and hardworking team. She also loved the great academics and the job opportunities after graduating and serving.

The most important recruiting information that Phelps received along her recruiting journey was to, “Consider everything, you never know what will pop up and you could end up loving a school you thought you wouldn’t or dislike a school you thought you’d love.”

Phelps’ favorite parts of the recruiting process were, “It being over – but also getting to visit so many different college campuses and meeting new people + getting excited to see them commit.”

Phelps would like the student-athletes currently in the recruiting process that they should not rush it, “because ultimately you will end up where you’re meant to be if you keep an open mind.”
In college, Phelps looks forward to meeting new people, making new friends, getting new opportunities, and going through basic training. Good Luck, Rocky!
