An Upperclassman's Advice for Sophomore Year

Starting sophomore year can feel stressful, exciting, and a little confusing all at the same time. Freshman year is over, and now you have more responsibilities. Sophomore year may not seem as important as junior or senior year, but many students say sophomore year is one of the most important years for building good habits and preparing for the future.

The biggest advice from upperclassmen is to stay organized with assignments and tests. Classes during sophomore year can become more challenging, and it can be easy to fall behind. Using a planner, calendar, or reminders on the phone can help students keep track of deadlines.

Another tip is to take sophomore year seriously, many students make the mistake of thinking they can wait until junior year to start trying. But sophomore year is the perfect time to create good habits for studying and responsibilities.

Another thing recommended to students is to get involved with school. Joining clubs, sports, and school events can help students meet new people.

Another piece of advice is to not be afraid to ask teachers for help. Some students might feel nervous asking questions during class, but teachers want you to do well. You can always come in for office hours with teachers.

Finally, students say not to rush through high school. Many high schoolers spend their time worrying about the future and just waiting for the future, that they forget to enjoy the present. High school goes by quickly, and students should take the time to appreciate each moment instead of always looking ahead.

Sophomore year may come with challenges, but it can be one of the best years of highschool. By being true to yourself, getting involved, building strong habits, and asking questions, students can set themselves up for success in the future.
