Introducing our new teacher of the month…
Ms. O’Neill!
She was voted by our students in a poll of 50 and won by a whopping 20%.
Why Teach?
When asked the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?,” most people usually have no clue at a young age. Ms. O’Neill, however, knew that she wanted to be a teacher since she was just a 5-year-old in kindergarten.
She also grew up wanting to be an elementary teacher after being inspired by her own third-grade teacher, who showed how life-changing being an educator can be.
This idea of being an elementary teacher changed once she got to high school and experienced a math class that incorporated fun and how interesting math can be.
Once Ms. O’Neill got to college her “why” of why she wanted to be a teacher completely shifted. She once had just the focus of wanting kids to excel in math and help them in any way she can.
“I wanted students to view math in not a black and white way,” she said.
Now, she teaches because of God.
“I feel like I best serve God in a classroom. The way I live out my faith is through teaching,” said Ms. O’Neill.
It is more important to Ms. O’Neill to love her students, then teach them math. Rather than teach them math, then love her students.
Ms. O’Neill was voted teacher of the month because of her dedication to God and her students.
