“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”-Matthew 11:28
This verse comes from the gospel of Matthew in the Bible, not only is it a verse that inspires us to put trust in who Jesus is, it perfectly sums what Confession and Adoration can do for someone.
At Gibbons, confession and adoration are available on Thursdays during first and second lunch.
“Confession is the sacrament of God’s mercy where a student or educator can go confess their sins and God through the priest forgives them and heals them,” said Fr. Luke, chaplain of Cardinal Gibbons.
Confession is one of the sacraments of healing in the Catholic Church.
When a person goes to confession, it is important to remember that we go because we are all sinners who make mistakes daily. Being able to have the opportunity to go to confession at Gibbons is a blessing because it allows us to keep going back to God after we have made those mistakes and return to Him. In addition to that, the priest is sworn to not share whatever is heard to the confessional to anybody else.
Gibbons offering a weekly confession benefits anybody, being able to be forgiven for the guilt you might have, or just listening to some advice from Fr. Luke can help put life into perspective.
“I would invite anyone who hasn’t been to confession in a long time to come and trust in God’s mercy, and even if it’s painful, it’s so rewarding to hear that your sins are forgiven, don’t let fear stop you from celebrating this amazing sacrament,” said Fr. Luke.
Adoration is not a sacrament in the Catholic Church, but it is one of the most impactful experiences someone could have.
Adoration is when the Eucharist is set on the altar in the Chapel or Church. You are being fully and truly present with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, we come to Him in silence and ask Him for whatever we need.
Adoration at Gibbons is a privilege because we can pray anywhere, but adoration allows us to come to the foot of the altar and can change our hearts.
Stop by this Thursday for confession or adoration during lunch, let yourself enjoy some time being with Jesus.
